sub_divided: cos it gets me through, hope you never stop (Default)
I thought I'd left questionable content behind when I moved on from Loveless fandom, but considered through WFI-colored glasses Saimono has a lot of questionable content too. I don't just mean the usual gay subtext -- in this case gay canon -- but specifically incest, pedophilia, and pedophilic incest. (HELLO REISHIN I AM LOOKING AT YOU.) Which isn't to say that Saimono is actually questionable, only that everything looks different when you've got perverts on the brain.

Anyway, that's not really what I wanted to talk about. My parents have been making noise about wanting to see my "writing".

...

Ahhhhhhh! What can I show them? What do I do? I've never written anything original! I barely write fanfiction anymore! I do want to show them something because, well, it's a hobby, and I don't necessarily think it's an illegitimate hobby, and my parents never ask about my hobbies. But. Fanfiction. ;_;

As I see it, I have four options: Under the cut, avoiding-actually-writing-anything-new acrobatics )

In other news: I had a blast with [livejournal.com profile] apintrix in New York[1]; Paprika is weird, but cool[2]; I like Darker Than Black but I'm starting to worry that the eventual explanation won't make any more sense than the current ominous foreshadowing[3]; The Devil would be perfect if only the directors didn't kill approximately half the air time slow-panning across the faces of three main characters[4]; the Veronica Mars series finale was awesome[5]; and I finally know which classes I'm taking this summer[6].

[1] NEXT TIME LET'S GET ICE CREAM TOO.

[2]Full of exactly those parts of Japanese pop culture that always make the headlines -- no wonder Satoshi Kon's movies export so well -- the plot follows several scientists' attempts to recover the "DS-Mini," an experimental dream therapy device that causes havoc in the wrong hands. There were subplots in this movie that could practically have stood alone as main plots (though admittedly, those movies would probably not have been very good). The detective was kind of a boring character -- or I should say, a very normal character -- so I was glad when he and At-chan...oops, that's a spoiler. Above all it's visually amazing, well worth $10 to see on a big screen.

[3] But the main character is a dead-eyed psychic assassin! All the women fall for him! *in love*

[4] And I'll be honest, only the cop is really "acting" in this, so the pans don't really show the characters giving each other meaningful looks as much as they hover over blank expressions while the music swells meaningfully. The problem might also be that the past event that connects the three of them wasn't set up very well. The problem might also be that only the cop is an active character -- the other two make sense, more or less, but they aren't advancing the action. (Kang Sunbae is my favorite character, obviously.)

[5] "It's like I'm back in high school." <-- exactly

[6] Intro to Statistics and a Drawing class. For distribution. I'm, um, back to being a Physics major.
