Gonna give up on The Lions of Al-Rassan for now. I dunno, it's not horrible, but I'm also not really enjoying it, and there more books on my "to read" pile than there are hours in a day.

1. I mentioned amei's Raidou porn and forgot to mention wredwrat's High School AU doujinshi! Check it out, it's awesome.

2. harumi linked to a very cool Mononoke fanvid here (download here). The show isn't really my thing since it's too, uh, flat. (Seriously, the fact that you can't make spatial sense out of the scenery upsets me.) Also the visuals and storytelling are both really complicated and so in order for the audience to follow the story, the plot has to be simple, and I'm more of a "simple storytelling, complicated plot" person. But the video really is extremely cool.

3. Translation of the first volume of Kyou Kara Maou by the same person who's been translating the Mirage of Blaze novels. Dude, these are hilarious.

Two shortfics with Ritsuka's psychiatrist in them (she is also in the next chapter of Call Me Anytime - what can I say, the woman is convenient. Also, I'd never noticed this before, but SHE HAS NO NAME seems she does have a name, it's Katsuko. Way to not check facts, self!).

Warning, lots of talking in these. Also the second is way too ernest.

I might have linked to the first one, but I don't think I linked to the second, and the third is new. Anyway the first fails because I didn't really know where I was going with it. At first I only wanted to make a point about Soubi, but I ended up spending more time on Ritsu, which was a problem because the original story called for a wallpaper-like Ritsu whose only purpose was to comment on Soubi. I think I did a better job with Ritsu-the-person (as opposed to Ritsu-the-plot-device) in stories two and three.

But I'm proud of this line:
Nagisa could understand the urge to pin helpless creatures to a piece of styrofoam, to watch them die; what she couldn't understand was Ritsu's clinical fascination with the corpses.

It's a commentary on active versus incidental cruelty. Some day I will (maybe) expand this idea into a full-length fic.


...at fanthology, July comes after June. The next session's theme isn't Anything Goes Month (that's in August), it's Mysterious Shop Fic. XxxHolic and Petshop of Horrors crossovers count. I need to make the announcement. But I want to combine it with a schedule for the next few months. But I'm waiting on the go-ahead. HELP HELP WHAT DO I DO.

I've decided to continue the story from the Loveless ex-oneshot I posted three days ago. I don't think I've ever started a story with absolutely no idea of where I was going with it (well, okay, there was that one time), so this should be fun, right?! Right...

By the way, the first five volumes of Loveless manga are uploaded somewhere. >_> Just so we're all on the same page.

This chapter was running a little long, so it's split into two parts...which would be fine, except that nothing happens in this part. Some conversation. And this is different from anything else I've written how? But it does set up the next part, in which Something happens. As soon as I work up the courage -_-;.
