Today was the closing ceremony, and my god if it wasn't a thing of allegorical beauty. For those unfortunate enough to have missed it, the Greeks planted thousands of aritificial heads of grain and then harvested them, to music, for hours. And it was wonderful. Too bad NBC didn't show it uncut.

It was pretty, it was true! and it was great because inbetween the set where a couple got married to traditional music and the set where couples performed a traditional Greek dance, they had a set where tourists with giant pink inflatables formed a procession. And then later all the tourists got invited to the feast, which was blatent advertising but funny enough that I didn't mind. Also they (not the tourists) jumped over flames and chased a guy on a bicycle around for a while.

Traditional Greek music: is a lot like the music from Troy, now I think about it. All wailing and loooong drawn-out syllables. It's much better when you can't understand what they're saying, as most of the lyrics tend to be things like "now we harvest this wheat together" and "you are the pillar of my heart. Let's go harvest wheat." A good portion of modern Greek music is similarly square. Sort of like enka, hey?

It's remotely possible that my love for the closing ceremony was actually my relief that the Olympics are finally over (after all, one positive emotion is much like another). It took them long enough.

Icons! I get minus ten Cool Points (CP) for stealing the subject line of this post from [livejournal.com profile] falxumbra. A few days ago Bartlett's Familiar Quotations and I sat down to discuss the best way to chop up claasic quotes. And when the tears had dried, this was the result:

The somewhat-less awful ones are either the first ones I made when I still figuring things out or the last ones I made when I was fed-up with making icons. May I never see another icon again. Amen.

Beck is about the co-lead singer of a struggling band (the guy in color). It is way, WAY over-the-top. No manga about playing music should have this many force lines. You can find it at mangascreener. If you like music, or just good characters and random references to American pop culture, you should read it.

Saiyuki Gaiden:

I didn't include that last one in the official count because it sucks. Then I felt bad about doing every character except Hakkai when you specifically told me, V, that he was your favorite character, so here is an oversized textless base for him. My favorite character? This guy. I swear one day I will make icons of these because Saiyuki's color illustrations are too pretty for their own good.

The "Crotch Cam" and "Flying" icons are BOTH under 40 kb! Hurray! First line of icons is from Alice by Whoopi Goldberg. Second line is from Tree of Cranes by Allen Say. The "Cam" is an Avengers color illustration and the fish are from "How to Chinese Brush Paint". "Flying" is from the children's classic Up and Up by Shirly Hughes.

What else? I got all my brushes from [livejournal.com profile] 100x100_brushes and most of the fonts from dafont.com. How did I do?
