It's been so long since I saw this movie - I was really too young to understand/think about it at the time (also, I was super distracted). So I'm glad to read this, lots to think about. Since I don't think I could stand to watch it a second time. :/

The candy is real, by the way, and still in production afaik. I bought a tin of them at a Japanese supermarket when I was in college.
