Way Up North in the Ice and Snow
Sep. 5th, 2004 12:48 pmAlthough acually this weekend was 80 degrees and muggy. I'm back at college! And, what's more, glad to be here. Did I really forget how much I liked it?
My goal on arrival was to get the more reticent of my frinds to drink the Ouzo I smuggled through three airports and across four state lines, possibly the most illegal thing I've ever done (sad?). Now that there's nothing left but a licorish aftertaste - still, because that was last night and friends don't let friends post drunk - I guess my new goal is to avoid bad parties. I have this theory that you can be happy anwhere provided you make a sincere effort. Doublethink, you see. The only problem is that sometimes self-deception is too much work, which is what happened toward the end of last night. End disclaimer!
1. Someone in a
fandom_wank post about incest mentioned Theory of Mind. (Fandom_wank is suspended? Since when?) The cool thing was that they mentioned it in the most off-hand way possible and expected everyone else to automatically know what they were talking about. It's meta! Hooray! I have, if anything, the opposite problem - I'm always completely surprised and a little disbelieving when I find that someone else thinks the same way I do, about anything.
2. Some of the people I thought were really clever have just been online longer than I have. Or, I guess they're still clever, but it turns out they've been supplanting their native intelligence with other people's wit. Alas. At the very least they have good taste. Or bad taste? V says bad taste is more fun.
3. ...I forgot what I was going to say. It involved some kind of analogy to Harper's Ferry, though, so consider yourselves spared.
Possibly the worst part about packing is that you inevitably have to unpack.
