Master of the Obvious!

Recs! V, I'd like to apologize for my utterlamelateness. Because that December fic-a-day project? OMG YOU ROCK MY WORLD. Go read her two Death Note fics, everyone: the first (Homicide) is wonderfully macabre and the second (Happy Holidays) is so very, very silly. They're great.
Also fan of: 6, 9, those Aggregate orig-shorts (12&22), 30, and crazy!Kakashi. Oh my lord, crazy!Kakashi.
Ok, and MASSIVELY MASSIVE SPOILERS for the latest Death Note behind the cut.
Salient point is that Raito touches the Death Note that once belonged to him (now on loan to Heiguchi) and instantly becomes evil (again). First of all:
IN YOUR FACE, ALEX. (My younger brother insisted that Raito's Death Note "went away" after he gave it up, like into the ether or something. Too bad he refused to bet on it, because I've never won a bet against him in my life and that is sort of sad.)
Secondly, what does this mean? I think by now we can all agree that there's nothing about the Death Notes that inherently turns people into sociopaths. Every DN holder thus far has been affected differently: Raito decided to play God, while Misa and Heiguichi were content with stalker! and corporate slimeball!, respectively. If there's anything corrupting it's the power of the death note--a power only good for murder, usually considered an amoral act--and the feeling that owning one seperates you from the rest of society.
OK! So the first time 'round, it took Raito a few weeks of killing to get over his initial revulsion and (possibly) horrendous guilt. And yet here he is, touching--just touching! not even owning!--a Death Note and he's all insta-evil. If that's not an inherent property of the Death Note, then I'm brought back to an old threory: along with memory-loss comes personality-loss. All of the warped parts of his personality, that parts L associated with Kira? Were buried with his memories. If you believe like I do that these are natural parts of his personality, then that meants that for the last, um. Twelve chapters he's been operating with major parts of his psyche missing.
Obsess much? XD
