I was outside earlier, though, attempting to play tennis. The University has 7 courts for 40,000 undergrads; needless to say we we didn't get one even after a 1.5 hour wait.

You know what the problem with today's society is? Too much ironic self-reference. This FST sort of gets to me because what if I don't want to be humorously self-aware? Excerpt from the linear notes:

Two-Mix - Truth (Great Detective of Love): Another song for Relena! Two-Mix is such a great band. Actually, I discovered them through GW, and their other songs are awesome too! I couldn't have a GW FST without a Two-Mix song! ...The song is about someone on a quest not just for love, but for the truth. Relena is searching for the truth about the things that are going on... She has a dream she is trying to find, to make reality: an end to war!

It's basically a send-up of every Gundam Wing fan who doesn't look past most obvious parts of the series, or who takes GW too seriously, or who has ever said that Evanescence perfectly captures the inner pain of anything (and meant it, of course). Or maybe it's a send-up of the posters' former selves, it's hard to tell. My problem is: what if I want to do an FST composed entirely of pop music and NOT APPOLOGIZE FOR IT or write little "haha I know this is overdone but I am being tongue-in-cheek" linear notes? What if I don't want to be tongue-in-cheek? I like being serious about things. But the currency of internet fandom is snark and I am already doomed for using Radiohead and Green Day songs in an FST and for writing Savage Garden songfic.

(I'm also a Heero/Relena fan, of course. Why else would this bother me? I once told [livejournal.com profile] keraha that I was on the margins of the fandom for a year and a half without ever once reading a shonen-ai fanfic. Not that I avoided them, exactly: I didn't have to avoid them because I never even saw them and didn't know they existed. The internet is a strange, myopic place.)

In other news I spent a good portion of Saturday randomly designing color schemes for [livejournal.com profile] cyrnelle's still unnamed new S2 Style. She's submitting it to the Second Annual LJ Style Contest ([livejournal.com profile] lj_stylecontest). The schemes are all very standard and maybe a little ugly (although I do like Black and White and Red All Over), but the style is totally awesome--just look at how many things you can customize. *has never tried to use an S2 style and has no idea if this level of customization is standard or not* Who knows, maybe I'll use it if I ever get around to learning S2.

Anyway I wish [livejournal.com profile] cyrnelle the best of luck. (Possible style names: Banner? Floating Table? I really have no idea.)

Oh! And I almost forgot to mention: new custom moodtheme. Stars aren't very expressive so I had to rely on color to convey mood. Unfortunatly this reminds me of the Homeland Security color codes. Danger, bad mood! Red alert, situation critical! (I'm not feeling all that bad right now, actually. I should rework the theme so that there's more than one (BRIGHT RED) choice for "mild frustration."
