By the time you read this entry, I will have already completed the anime known as Initial D: First Stage.

1. Is everyone in Akina involved in this conspiracy to get Takumi to race? Geeze, even the adults! What kind of model is that, street racing is illegal. (Had to be said, moving on.)

1a. It’s decided: if I ever fic this series I’ll do one with Takumi and Natsuki (just to understand how that even works, they have nothing in common); one typical day at the gas station; one interview with a popular underground culture magazine (only Itsuki will consent to being interviewed); and one challenger from the Tokyo street racing scene who’s overly arrogant because he just read a misleading interview in a popular underground culture magazine. XD soundly beaten, of course. The theme of all four fics will be:

Q: Why do you race?
A: Look at this place, man. Do you see anything else to do around here?

2. OH GOD NAKAZATO’S EEEVIL THEME MUSIC. *cracks up*

3. Dammit man! I’m watching the Takumi VS Maki battle, the one where he’s given a choice on unfamiliar territory, lead first or follow first. Takumi chooses to follow and I’m like, good for you! It’s a choice that maximizes your chance for success since it lets you copy the entry speed of someone familiar with the course this round, win with that plan in the next round. It ALSO maximizes the consequences of failure since it’ll look worse to lose in the first round, but I’m tired of this modern “play to not lose” mentality even if it is correct, strategically speaking. (Game Theory says: always act to minimize the damage of a loss. Never act to maximize success. In the long run, you win. But I’ve seen too much shonen, I can’t stand this kind of thinking.)

And then Takumi says, I chose to follow because I don’t like having someone behind me. >_<;;

3a. Oh, hey now, no reason to give up the second round. I seriously doubt Takumi can drive that well in the lead.

4. IKETANI SEMPAI YOU POOR FOOL, MY HEART GOES OUT TO YOU. If this series was going to make me cry, the scene by the billboard would have been the place.

5. In a perfect world, Natsuki’s mysterious father whose face we never see would be Takumi’s father in disguise. I realize this makes NO SENSE, but wouldn’t it be perfect if they were half-siblings? Free angst! Suddenly a disappointingly normal romantic sideplot becomes psychologically griping! You have to admit, they do look like each other. (The mothers! We haven’t seen the mothers yet!) EDIT: I am an idiot and didn't realize Natsuki's "daddy" is actually, er, the older man she is dating for money. SO MESSED UP.

6. OH GOD THE ROMANTIC MUSIC AS TAKUMI WASHES THE EIGHTY-SIX. *cracks up even harder, because she knows that somewhere, someone has written this pairing*

7. Initial D is good, yo. It’s got good pacing and good characters and the driving has actual depth. And is made more impressive by the fact that I can’t automatically process kilometers. (120? You serious? …oh, that’s only 75 mph. BUT STILL.)

There’ll probably be another post tonight. I’m in a spammy mood.
