What's more important: to be happy, to be famous, or to be just?
"That's easy! What kind of dumb person puts a question like that on a test?"
"Naruto, be polite. Happy, because fame and justice are dependant on the opinions of others. Happiness is something we create for ourselves."
"None."
"Boo!"
"Naruto! Sasuke, the rules say you have to pick one."
"Tch. Just, then. But not this idiot's idea of justice."
"Jerk!"
"Useless."
"Naruto, the question."
"Oh yeah. You'll love my answer, Sakura, it's really cool."
"Just say it, before we're disqualified."
Grin. "I'll be famous because I'm just!"

And then they rolled their eyes and called Naruto an idiot.

Someone posted over on [livejournal.com profile] death_note asking about Misa's lifespan (again).

(Aside: [livejournal.com profile] death_note is a pretty repetitive comm. That plus the manga being liscenced have lead to spontaneous calls for a series FAQ, but I doubt it will help. Let me put it this way: if it's a question with a definite answer, it's probably in the manga or linked from the userinfo. No one lazy enough to post without looking is going to bother with an FAQ. And if it's a question without a definite answer, then it's something worth talking about, even for the fifth time. There's no point discouraging discussion by claiming to have all the answers. On the other hand I like explaining things, so you should come help me and [livejournal.com profile] keraha with our Death Note FAQ, because it is going to rock.)

Getting back to the topic, my answer was:

I think it's half of your remaining lifespan. Say Misa was going to live to be 80 (average age of death in Japan). When she did the trades she was 20. So, 60 years divided by four is 15, and Misa dies at 35.

Some people think that when Rem sacrificed herself for Misa, her lifespan was extended beyond that. But I don't think so.

Someone (not the OP) replied with:

The establuished fact that the death of Reaper comes from a sacrifice to extend the lifespan of a human creates a situation in which makes it likely for Misa's life to be extended by an unknown quantity. If I were a betting person I'd give it 2:5 in favor.

For example the original Misa had 21 years left, halved to 10 1/2 years in the mean time halved again to five years (perhaps spent in cell awaiting execution based on what we can perceive to be Rem's perception in eliminating L to keep Misa alive and reinforced by this is what does her in though the importance of intent and action have been established within story but not the importance of success in the intention). This is pure conjecture, however as we never see Misa's original lifespan which may be 100 after Jealous made the first sacrifice or the consequentally halved and quartered versions thereof nor do we see the curent span to judge whether Rem's sacrifice increased it or not.

Further Ryuk is not going to talk about it as that's a part of his personal code and another Kira would not be able to see her lifespan as humans with the note are unable to see the lifespan of anyone elese carrying a note.

All we have as a certainty is that her lifespan is an unknown quantity and may be long, very short, or somewhere in between depeneding on her environment and the consqequences of her actions and the actions of others that directly affect her. Which is pretty much the description of a human lifespan, eh?

LOL jargonspeak. She has a point, but I can barely read it.

(Okay, so that was lame. I did give fair warning, didn't I?)
