I bet you million-post customers are jealous now. I’ve already got all my entries tagged.

Tags are a new feature reserved for journals using the S2 style system** whereby you filter your recent view to display only a certain category of entries. So they’re sort of like memories, except less convenient if there are too many of them since you have to scroll through several pages to get what you want.

I still like them, though, for these reasons. )

**Clearly an underhanded way to get people to purchase paid time. We won’t make this incredibly useful new feature exclusive to paid users, LJ says. But we will make it hard for free users to have tags and a journal that looks good. At least it’s a change from ICONS ICONS MORE ICONS.

If the tag thing wasn’t enough to make you jealous, there’s a comic/gaming store having an out-of-business sale a block from my apartment. $70 got me:

1. seven volumes of Ranma ½ (IT NEVER GETS OLD.)
2. six volumes of Please Save My Earth (Fav. of all time, which is why I’m buying even though the entire series is available through bittorent.)
3. two volumes of Petshop of Horrors (In the second volume D gives an awesome Eastern vs Western morality rant which would, however, have worked better if Petshop was less prone to ignoring moral consistency in favor of Teh Gothic Horror. But whatever; I am mostly here for the art and D being a spaz.)
4. two volumes of Runaways (yaaay this series. [livejournal.com profile] v_voltaire got me started by sharing the first chapter, so I will share it with you: Runaways 01. Opens with CDisplay unless you change the extension to .zip, and reads from left to right. This is Marvel, not manga.)

Plus a free keychain. V, are you sure I can’t get you anything? They carry three times as many gaming guides as manga titles, and five times more American comics than that. 60% off! *in a happy place, because in the US you don’t see manga discounted anywhere*

1. I have an internet connection again!

2. I’m not asking for air conditioning but it would be soooo wonderful to live in an apartment with ventilation right now.

3. Clicking the little person in front of a livejournal name (eg, [livejournal.com profile] sub_divided) gets you that person’s userinfo. HOW DID I NOT KNOW THIS.

4. Disturbing resemblance. (People who've read Hot Gimmick will know why this is disturbing. Or why don't I tell you right now: Hot Gimmick's main character is so totally off that any comparison of her to any other character is disturbing, because she has a personality that shouldn't be inflicted on any other characters.)

5. I’ve lost faith in Stephen King. You know the website he’s writing daily articles on literary history for, http://www.todayinliterature.com? (You should, it’s cool, lots of quotations and his topics are so interesting that I wonder how they could not be common knowledge. Archives are reserved for paying members, but if you save articles to your harddrive as they become available like I do this is not an issue. Unless you also lose your harddrive like I did. DAMN.)

Here’s the thing: he’s started to repeat. I saw that Tolstoy article two years ago! And that Pushkin article is from last year! It’s completely unfair to charge for old content, I protest.

6. The Queen’s Fool: Dear God, why am I still reading this book? (No really, I’d like to know.)

7. People keep asking me about last Sunday’s “hurricane.” Michiganders, correct me if I’m wrong, but aren’t we 1,000 miles from the nearest coast?!

8. So much for the Tsubasa anime. *gives up in disgust because it takes ten minutes to do what the manga did in three panels*

9. Ummm, is there anyone willing to look over that Juuni Kokki fic after I finish it? Sorry, this isn’t something I’d normally ask (because I’m usually all about implying how much I’d like feedback, aha), but this one is more…it has more “original” in it. I feel exposed.

My overall impression is AUGH DEAD FROM LACK OF ENDING. The Twelve Kingdoms spends half its time developing a storyline that’s never fully explained, and what’s worse is it was clearly all planned out and if only the production company hadn’t run out of money...! The credits say “adapted” but of course this is from a series of fantasy novels I’ll never read. AUGH.

The Twelve Kingdoms--Junni Kokki--is a Romance of the Three Kingdoms version of El Hazard, sort of. The setting is the real star, but the characters are pretty cool too. And it is REALLY well done. I've got the commercial DVD rip, so I listen in English (the English voice acting is surprisingly good). I also keep the subtitles on, so that I can compare the literal and interpreted translations and maybe triangulate myself back to the original from there. Umm but this may only be me.

The series starts off slow and confusing and with annoying major characters. But you shouldn't be discouraged, because they get a lot more likable. One of the major themes of this show is "becoming a better person."

ALSO, love the foreshadowing. It wasn’t treated like an ominous narrative device at all, more like a regular part of the story that didn’t make sense at first but later did.

ALSO, for many many episodes character development is the plot. *thrills*

WIP, The Twelve Kingdoms (part 1 of 2) )

The second half should be up by the end of the week. I meant to finish yesterday, but I realized I was defeated at about 2am when all of my sentences were coming out only four words long.

Still no internet connection. My fault, I keep forgetting to call the installers to make an appointment.

Bookblogging, The Bell Jar )

More bookblogging, The Tale of Genji )

Something [livejournal.com profile] ronoken posted reminded me, Wednesday was my one-year livejournal anniversary. Go me! Have some music!

Theme is "US Geography" because I was trying for songs with specific place-name references. Then I remembered I have only 6 gigs of music and no internet connection. I FAIL.

01. Good Charlotte – East Coast Anthem (Washington D.C., general East)
02. Billy Joel – Downeaster Alexa (Long Island Sound and environs)
03. Olu Dara – Neighborhoods (NYC, all three of the tri-borough boroughs)
04. Squirrel Nut Zippers – Memphis Exorcism (wordless song. you see how I fail.)
05. Presidents of the USA – Cleveland Rocks (Cleveland, Ohio)
06. Jayhawks – Wichita (Wichita, Kansas)
07. Fastball – Sweetwater, Texas (not really)
08. REM – Texarcana (Texas again? As seen from California)
09. Red Hot Chili Peppers – Parallel Universe (California doesn’t really exist, though. Why else would I not have even *one* song about it?)

Bonus song for a bonus state:
Pati – Island Girls (the “local girls” are Hawaiian, but the singer does not discriminate.)

08 and 09 are from [livejournal.com profile] fst, 01 and 05 are from [livejournal.com profile] kaitoucheckers. Judging only by those songs, approximately where am I from? XD

Today's plan: shop to replace the massive amounts of food C, C, M, Y, and K ate yesterday. If you add the people who left early and me, we spell MY SMACCK! Color me easily amused.

Kakashi/Sasuke for [livejournal.com profile] darkeyedwolf. I resisted my first impulse, which was to write explicit OOC PWP.

Title: Orders.
Series: Naruto
Genre: Definitely Not Smut. (Although sharingan sex would be super hot. Hypnosis is the ultimate borderline-consensual plot device.)
Notes: Takes place after the Wave Country arc and before the chuunin exam, somehow. (Behold! A magically elongated timeline! And for my next trick, I will attempt to write in-character KakaSasu, aided by the amazing power of retrospective insight.)

Orders )

Eh, I'm not big on the student/teacher. But this is for [livejournal.com profile] darkeyedwolf, and student/teacher has to be part of what she likes about Kakashi/Sasuke because otherwise she wouldn’t like them. So I played that part up.

Going home now; the library after midnight creeps me out.

Welcome people who have friended me in the last two weeks! why You all live between the 100th and 150th East Meridian: Malaysia (2), Singapore (1), Australia (2), the Philippines (1). Odds are 1 in 15,000!

Ummm I haven't written any requests yet. This is because
1) Writing is a form of stress relief
2) I have no stress to relieve this week

Next week will be different, ohhh yes. In the meantime, I have new books! [livejournal.com profile] falxumbra and I went to Barnes and Noble last Saturday and I am tragically weak against bookstores; also V lent me a few more (she says she doesn't mind losing them, but I still salute her for her courage).

Warning: those with a low tolerance for YA fantasy need not read any further.

Villains by Necessity, Eve Forward )
Castle in the Air, Dianna Wynn Jones )
Shibumi, Trevarian )

And this is way overdue: movie meme from b_hallward )

Five people you want to see do this meme:
[livejournal.com profile] atimson
[livejournal.com profile] fledermauskid
[livejournal.com profile] svz_insanity
[livejournal.com profile] biggersandwich
[livejournal.com profile] yasminm

And anyone else who watches as many movies as I suspect they do.

It's not just the fifth day of the fifth month--the date is 05/05/05. A sign!

Hikaru no Go blather )
Footnotes to blather which are longer than blather itself )

All of which is to say, I got a manageable number of requests so I think I'll do something more substantial with them than drabbles. Except for [livejournal.com profile] darkeyedwolf's, because her prompt sucked♥. It might take longer, but they'll all be done eventually. In the meantime, requests are still open if I haven't scared you off with all the *waves hands vaguely* stuff in this entry.

In addition to everything else I think I need to do Death Note fanart celebrating the fact that if L=Left and Raito=Right then Misa=Middle. If someone else wants to draw the three of them sitting in that order on a couch watching a horror movie and L has the popcorn and his legs drawn up and is completely absorbed, and Raito is leaning on his left elbow on the sofa's other arm with his fingers half-covering his face, his right arm (with the handcuff) along the back of the couch, and Misa is between them pretending to be frightened so she can cling to Light's sweater, that would really make my day. Bonus points if the television screen casts an eerie glow across their faces.

I told more people than I can remember that I'd put this meme up evenually.

(1) You can request a drabble from me. One hundred words exactly, unless I decide I'd rather write more.
(2) It'll help if you're specific. Name characters at the very least, and possibly a situation, image or line as well. Anything you want!
(2a) But I'm not going to write NC-17.
(3) In return, post this meme in your own journal.

Fandoms I've Written For )

You might as well add Hikaru no Go to that list because AUGH THE ENDING ARE YOU SURE THERE ISN'T MORE? Knowing in advance doesn't stop the pain. Additionally, if there's anything you know or suspect I've seen, feel free to ask. I'll either say yes or tell you it's impossible so you can request something else. Crossovers are welcome!

And, what the hell. I'm free for the next week and a half, other people have finals or whatever (APs! that brings back memories), so if you don't want to do (3) you don't have to. And if you aren't on my flist, you can still ask for something. This is my first time doing requests so I might as well go all the way.

I'd hate to live in a world where people can tell you're a virgin just by looking at you. Assuming the value system is the same (which, you know, it wouldn't be), sex would be so intimidating. Everyone would know! I'm surprised the whole lot of them haven't died out already, from embarassment.

Loveless, of course. )

Done with the semester. Final score is
sub_divided: 3.
Physics: 1.
French: 27. I'VE BEEN PWNED.

I'm packing now--lots and lots of packing, also an essay, and then moving all my stuff to Y's so he can take it home with him. (Bless him! I thought I'd have to put it all in storage.) Finding a place for the summer was surprisingly easy--five minute phone call, thousand dollar check, and I even get to keep the microwave. Everything's pre-paid. And the place itself is four times larger and twenty times closer than where I'll be living in September for $235 more a month (ack). Ahhh, Ann Arbor summer housing market. I am going to hate you when I have to find a subletter next year.

Quick note: I'll be gone for the weekend and back on... Tuesday, say. In the meantime, if anyone wants to poke around [livejournal.com profile] deathnote_faq and point out all the places where I'm being particularly elitist? Because that's bad, that's not what I want. Alternately, you could offer to contribute something. Essays and such are welcome--we aim to inform and entertain. Check the userinfo. I'll be around tonight if there are any questions.

I was going to title this post "Remember that Death Note Doujinshi?" before I realized that I haven't posted about it since December. And my flist is kinda bigger now than it was then. So the answer is probably no. Explain? I'd be glad to!

Loooong explanation )

Below is the almost-completed doujinshi. 18 pages, large images. Spoilers through chapters 33-36, right before the handcuffs show up. This is going on sale at A-kon, so I'll have to ask that you please not link the images anywhere else. Thank you!

Enough stalling. Pictures! Dial-up users beware. )

So there you have it. SUGGESTIONS concerning either the dialogue or art are MORE THAN APPRECIATED. Especially for the parts [livejournal.com profile] telophase and I mentioned, but anything else would also be good. Art changes can't be implemented immediately, but could go into effect later. As for dialogue, [livejournal.com profile] telophase wants more and I want less, and we could really use a third opinion. (PLEASE someone help me edit down Chief Yagami's lines. They SUCK.)

Official Credits are
Concept: [livejournal.com profile] keraha, [livejournal.com profile] sub_divided, [livejournal.com profile] telophase
Story: [livejournal.com profile] sub_divided
Art: [livejournal.com profile] telophase, who rocks like woah.
