I have this pile of completed fic outlines. It sits on the left side of my desk, mocking me--every fic in that pile has a beginning middle and end, and many have dialogue or even whole prose paragraphs filled in, but writing them and writing an actual story are two completely different processes. Anyway I was looking through them and I came across this Death Note outline and was just AJHLGSD;LKSD WHY HAVEN'T I WRITTEN THIS YET?

Bet you can guess how this story ends.

Title: Legalism
Summary: Light character analysis disguised as ideological debate.
Story behind the story: I thought it would be really neat if Light was selected for jury duty, did research, found out that Japan hasn't had juries since 1943.

Idea dump. Takes place after chapter 59. )

New thing: fic sources. Eh, although most of the time I forget where things came from.
Article about the new Japanese legal system to be instituted in 2009 (page 7)
Article about strategy in chess and fencing.

This is not an April Fool's Day post because I have no sense of humor. But I am curious:

Yes, my mother's fiftieth birthday. I made her--among other things--a mix CD. ^^;; The only thing more tacky than that would be to share it.

I AM SO, SO LAME )

Damn, I forgot to ask for copies of the Paris pictures. They were really pretty, if far too numerous--bad thing about digital cameras, people using them have absolutely no restraint.

Finally saw Howl's Moving Castle and didn't think it was all that bad. Except, you know, for the part where they turned Winn Jones' world into early-20th-century-Japan-in-hindsight. Eh?

Another week, another missed [livejournal.com profile] deathnote100 deadline. Off to comtemplate whether it's even worth writing anymore.

Guess who's still on campus? I got into an argument with a supporter earlier today. Or, well, Y got into an argument with F1 (on wherther's there's any such thing as absolute truth, of all things) while I stalled for time with F2. We came to the conclusion that he had points and I had points, but since his main point was that if I just read enough campaign literature I'd see the Truth, and mine was that I Already Had, Thanks, we weren't able to conclude anything. Of course.

Chrissie is evil. No one do this thing, ok? It's positively awful and patently unfair.

If you use Firefox, there's a really cool extension you might want to look into. It automatically downloads everything on a page, very useful for those many-linked [livejournal.com profile] fsts. We'll see whether this manages to fix the "download more than one file in a row and I'll crash, bitch" problem I've been having with Firefox lately ever since I got it.

Sunday is my mother's fiftieth birthday, and she'll be visiting tommorrow with the rest of the family and a new car. My new car! XDXD I know nothing about cars, but it's a red, automatic transmission two-door semi-sport. Haha, my mother very casually mentioned that red cars are much more likely to be stopped for drunk/erratic driving, and I said, ok mom, I get it.

...I still need to buy her something. ACK.

I should mention that I uploaded the first five volumes of Yami no Matsuei for [livejournal.com profile] darkeyedwolf a few days ago. (edit: taken down) Also, because [livejournal.com profile] telophase could use some more traffic (HA HA HA): check out this post of hers. It's mostly about what makes Fruits Basket a gateway drug really easy manga to get into, but there's also a bit about what makes Yami no Matsuei so hard. Interesting stuff.

Wrote this for [livejournal.com profile] chain_of_fics. It's abrupt and it goes over the wordlimit.

Series: Eternal Sabbath
Wordcount: ...1050. Aha?
Rating: PG13 for suicide. Please don't read if this bothers you.

Untitled fic here.

Just doing my part to break the cycle of impossible writing prompts. Eternal Sabbath is awesome, btw: it's dark and psychological (the main character (female) is a research psychologist) and creepy in a good way. Recent chapters have actually been sort of like Death Note (proof), but there's nothing supernatural about this series. Instead everything is explained with "science," including the fact that the main character (male) has super-healing powers and practices casual mind control.

ES is also by the mangaka of MARS, which amuses me to no end (typical shojo romance manga --> dark seinan insanity, hahaha).

We're at that point in Modern Chinese History (technically Modern East Asian History, but don't let the course name fool you) where everything becomes an "ist" or "ism". Which segues neatly into:

Lyndon LaRouche IS A NUTCASE ) This guy proves that all you need to do to gain a following is keep talking.

P.S.Princess Tutu. I swore to myself I'd never like That Jerk With the Pouffy Black Hair, but I am weak and easily swayed. I don't feel too bad: Princess Tutu might very well be the most deviously manipulative anime ever produced.

French Shout-out )

Once again, Avatar. Turn back, o ye non-believers! Or, better yet, WATCH THIS SHOW. You should at the very least read this fanfic--I swear to God you don't need to know anything about Avatar to understand what's going on. I'll tell you what you need to know, ok? And then you can tell me where I've gone wrong, because my proofreading skills stop at 4:00am and/or 4,000 words, whichever comes soonest.

Title: Wind and Rain
Series: Avatar: the Last Airbender
Timeline: Takes place after episode four, which I haven't seen yet
Rating: PG. Strong hints of Katara/Aang.
Genre: Action-adventure. Sokka, Katara and Aang make an emergency landing in the rain forrest.

6,400 words. How the hell did THAT happen? )

I think I'll wait for a few more episodes before I do anything else for Avatar (it is so EASY, though, to fic for). In the meantime, *stares mournfully at L backstory story which is refusing to write itself*

Livejournal mood analyzer (enter your username):

I'm distressed in my fandom-journal (Why can't you post about something happy once in a while? Your friends would appreciate it) but "a rosy-cheeked ray of f'ing sunshine 24/7" in my real-life journal. Um. I'm not trying to be duplicious? But art is born of frustration, struggle, and a hopeless defiance of conventional thought, so of course it comes out like that. Really.

I worte an L's childhood "drabble" for the current challenge at [livejournal.com profile] deathnote100. It won't make sense if you haven't read chapter 59--actually it probably won't make sense, period, as I dragged it out of a longer in-progress fic and stripped all the context away. I love [livejournal.com profile] deathnote100: it's the only "100" community where less than one out of every 15 submissions actually ends at 100 words.

And! I finally worked up the courage to re-read that HxH fic. Not as bad as I'd feared, not as good as I'd hoped. I added a little bit to the last section, which was literally written with my father standing over me taping his watch as we missed one train after another.

***

[livejournal.com profile] rianax totally gives the best writing prompts ever. Can we put some of those in the Avatar 20 themes woah, getting ahead of myself there. Does anyone else want to do an Avatar: the Last Airbender [livejournal.com profile] 20themes list with me? The show's got a stupid-simple premise and a where-haven't-I-seen-that-before magic system, but the writing is sharp, the acting is top-notch, the characters rock and it is so, so pretty. It needs fiction.

The New York Public Library’s photo archive is now online: http://digitalgallery.nypl.org/nypldigital/index.cfm If you need me look down—I’ll be the puddle of goopy happiness on the floor.

This just in! You can run USB memory sticks through the laundry with no ill effects. Here is the TERRIBLE, HORRIBLE, NO GOOD VERY BAD FANFIC that miraculously wasn’t erased. (Maybe I hate it because it was written at work in the space between phone calls and do you have any idea how maddening that is? Or maybe I hate because it really is that bad, I can’t tell. But I am rushing out the door to catch the 5:56 train and I do not care anymore.)

Title: Running Away
Pairing: KilluaGon
30_kisses theme: #9 dash
Disclaimer: Hunter x Hunter is the intellectual property of someone else.
Warnings: Crack that takes itself much too seriously. More-than-borderline meta, where by meta I mean shameless fangirl self-insertion. Cultural insensitivity and probable incoherency, bad pacing.

Have at it! )

I’ll be back online (and hopefully feeling less hopeless) on Monday.

I'd like to take this time to thank [livejournal.com profile] riko for making this icon. I'd also like to thank photoshop for allowing her to make it, livejournal for allowing me to use it, Vienna Teng for providing the photograph and, of course, the internet, without which none of this would have been possible.

The Oscars! I'm watching them RIGHT NOW; updating from my parents' hot new "why couldn't I have been born two years later" laptop. (It. Is so. HOT! I am insanely jealous.)

Quick thoughts )

This picture is different from every other picture of The Gates because it has me in it. I must have seen a million photographs of them by now. Transience in art is all very well, but how transient is it really when ten million people go to see a piece of "temporary" art, take pictures, and then post those pictures to the internet? (Because the internet is permanent, hahaha, but you see my point?)

That said, have some more. They're big, sorry: no image editing program and I'm pressed for time. Also, the gloves I'm wearing in the first one? Worth hundreds of dollars and I found them abandonned on a park bench. Score!

Internet access will be spotty for the next few days. It's not that I can't, it's just that I'm on vacation.
