The excuse is that I'm new, which is really no excuse I all because haven't I been lurking around someone else's friends page for a month? Ehem.

1) I wonder what the protocol for interests is, as in, if there's someone with the same interest as me, is it OK to randomly talk to them? Even if it is something really, really random and I actually have nothing in common with them at all?

This came up over "scrunchy faces," btw. Scrunchy faces can apparently either mean the kind you make when you're in LUUVVV ([livejournal.com profile] kidsinlove) or the kind you make when lifting very, very heavy objects ([livejournal.com profile] sunshineslugger). My thoughts here are, cool! I didn't even think of using lj as either a testament of my love or as a record of my accomplishments. But, you see, both journals seem a bit closed off, a bit clique-ish, and also are a bit hard to read since I speak neither Lovey-dovey nor Bench Press Slang. In fact, it is a measure of my ignorance that I cannot tell whether there is actually any bench-pressing involved at all, or whether it is squats, etc.

What kind of scrunchy faces did I mean? I'm not sure, actually, but I do know that they involved eyebrows - either raised or drawn together, the kind of look that says "that is so weird that I'm not sure I even want to know". In any case, I suppose I won't be leaving random comments, even if I really, really want to (in [livejournal.com profile] sunshineslugger's case). Naruto character poll! (I'm...Naruto. WTF?)

This brings me to my second point, which is:

2) Polls. I like them, but have you ever seen those journals which consist of nothing but poll results? Isn't that kind of sad? Excuse me while I hide away from anyone who was offended by that last remark, by which I mean everyone with a blog since that is what one *does* with blogs. But, I say, but! Don't you want to express yourself? Shouldn't you be using your own words rather than someone else's? Anyway, that's why memes are better, and posts better still. They tell a lot more about a person than a single linked picture ever could.

I'm sorry, that was awful and pretentious and pointless.

I do solemnly swear to henceforth try very, very hard not to update with any more random livejournal observations, but only with random broader-context observations and bad writing. Amen.
