More stupid, stupid livejournal observations. At least I sort of have an excuse? )

I do solemnly swear to henceforth try very, very hard not to update with any more random livejournal observations, but only with random broader-context observations and bad writing. Amen.

So, you know how there's this battle going on in the US right now between concerned/overzealous parents/Republicans and the music/video game industry over offensive lyrics/content and whether or not it warps the minds of small children? Anyway, the parents and/or Republicans have a point because I *never* used to curse before I listened to angry music, and now I do, reflexively, and then say "what?" when I get funny looks for it.

Yeah, I'm not sure where I'm going with this either, except to say that probably pop culture does cause slightly anti-social behavior, but so what? Life warps the minds of small children, but most of us manage just fine anyway. The British take a much more tolerant attitude toward this kind of thing, I think - they expect that most people will break the law, rudely, and then lie on their tax returns afterwards.

To get back on track, my point here is that doing illegal things online is sort of like listening to music where they curse a lot - you might think it won't affect you, but it does. For example, first I downloaded legally, then illegally but only unlicensed things, and now I have Bleach! Ah, I adore this series, and I thought I'd have to wait for it to come in English when it was licensed... I tell myself that I'll still buy the official release and that, therefore, my illegal downloading-ness hurts no one (except for the scanlation groups whose bandwidth I'm using), but the truth is that I probably won't. Well, maybe just the first volume, because it is so stylish.

And also, because I have the inalienable right to Change My Mind, damnit.

This is a first fandom post. It is fanfiction which I said I would never do and which I HAVE NEVER DONE GAH I SUCK. Weep for me, Argentina.

Title: No title yet, too embarrassed.
Author: [livejournal.com profile] sub_divided
Rating: Very G, because the action is vague and the "other stuff" even vaguer
Genre: Future Fic, ultimately Naruto-centric. Not in this section, though.
Pairings: Could be read as SasuNaru, but no more so than the show itself. Probably less so.
Synopsis: You know the action scene that starts every James Bond flick? This is that scene. Naruto and Sasuke prove that they can work together, and well, on a mission involving a few renegade Mist Ninjas; a mysterious one-eyed man looks on. This is the prologue to a longer and as-yet unwritten fic.

Untitled Prologue )

Problems I see: The action is vaguely OK (emphasis on vague), but the writing itself needs work. Awkward phrasing, excessive abruptness, emphasis on surprises that are either not surprising at all or are not well-enough explained, lack of concrete imagery, multiple viewpoints with no clear separation made between them... I could go on, but I'm not sure if I can fix it without writing something completely different. So I won't, and maybe some imaginary reader will help me out and suggest something *is hopeful*.

EDIT: Slight revision, no more changes in POV and fewer "surprises", less bad phrasing. The other stuff still stands, I think. And I totally changed the Author's Comment, too.

And yes, Konoha is now in my spellchecker as a real word *weeps*.

So, after some (not so major, all-in-good-fun-really) prodding from a real-life friend, I have a livejournal account. Somehow I feel that I missed the boat on this one... but at least the harbor remains. As in, the world hasn't yet warmed to the point where rising tides have completely flooded all seaside ports, and better late than never if you know what I mean?

So Far:

1) Thank you, [livejournal.com profile] ever_so, for taking that name first. I would not have been truly happy happy with it.

2) My livejournal site is not my website, although it does partially excuse my not having one. I repeat: a livejournal site is not a website. I should get a website...

3) My own friends page! Finally I can stop lurking about other people's.
