Break has thus far consisted of: family, snow, three identical hams, reading, wanting to write, avoiding phone calls, and video games. Fuller account here, written after reading one too many Marquez novellas ahaha. Tommorow I go to spend gift certificates on books, and Friday who knows? Maybe I'll see if C or A are around. Maybe I'll call N and we'll go with V to visit O. Or F. Maybe NYC. Maybe alphabet soup. Maybe I'll go window-shopping with my mother before Macy's takes down the holiday decorations that have been up since September.

All I know is, The Demon Ororon is awesome and I'm the biggest geek in a non-geek family. (Alex doesn't count because two isn't enough to establish a trend. Although he is a geek. My New Year's Resolution is ten minutes of calistenics every day before bed; his is to finally order the soundtrack to Tenjou Tenge. ("Almost every single day I think about ordering it but for some reason I never do. Arg!"))

Does "existentialist crisis" qualify as a legitimate reason to want to do summer reaserch? Because I'm filling out these short-answer forms for the application, see, and the best I can come up with is "hire me so I'll finally know whether or not I really want to be a scientist."

On the eathquakes and subsequent flooding: it's just stupifying, the amount of damage that's been done. And if I see one more TV special about unlucky-but-miraculously-alive American tourists I'm going to scream. What about all the, you know, people who actually lived there, and who actually died? Ugh.

...did I say Monday? I meant the packages will be mailed out today (Thursday) and that I suck, badly. They might be there in time for the New Year.

RANDOMLY: The Phantom of the Opera movie is the most visually stunning film ever. I haven't seen the play so I can't make comparisons, but damn the movie is pretty. Pretty crazy, too: half the cast is cracked. Madness roses graveyards dungeons masks gypsies falling chandeliers it's awesome! I was wondering, though - is Raoul supposed sing better than the Phantom?

Everyone else in the entire building has left for the holidays already, or at least that's what it feels like. Out of 1500 people I'm the only one left and it's strange, strange, strange. Pretty soon it'll be just me and those poor international students who can't afford a plane ticket home.

You know what? The Peshop of Horrors fics didn't look half bad. Maybe we're overestimating the horribleness of ff.net? Although the RahXephon fics all looked positively awful, so maybe not. So, how'd I do? And speaking of acronyms, what does WAFF stand for? I'm seriously scratching my head here. We Are Fluffy Fun? Widgets Ate Franz Ferdinand?

It's more of a secular ethnic identity thing. I'm the worst Jew in the world anyway, who has never had a Bat mitzvah and barely even knows what the Hebrew (above) means. Ah ha ha I suck. I feel as if I need to excuse this one. Here goes:

1) Written for the "late" challenge at temps_mort. I've never done timed writing before, so that would explain the abrupt randomness of the ending. Unfortunately(?), I didn't make the time limit - not by a long shot - so I won't be submitting this. It was all written in 75 minutes, but I couldn't type it up without editing and that took two hours at least. Ah, well, maybe next time.

2) I want to read Hunter x Hunter fic not starring Kurapica, Leorio, or Kurapica and Leorio. That's why I wrote this! I've got a terrible character bias towards Killua and it shows. Is decent fic with him and Gon in it too much to ask? They're only the main characters of the manga. I suppose the reason there's not a lot of fic for them is that they're twelve and so no one wants to slash them, but other kinds of fanfiction also exist??? I mean Naruto and CCS fans seem to cope just fine. Grrr!
